BJ PENN dominates JOE STEVENSON...
Joe Stevenson out of his league against BJ Penn.
http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=5497&zoneid=13
I have to be honest, I just felt bad for Joe Stevenson for this entire fight. And after the fight I felt even worse for him. Not only was he bloodied and battered and looked like he was on the verge of tears, but he then had to witness BJ Penn lick his blood off of each of his gloves as he celebrated his convincing victory. Recap - BJ Penn knocked Stevenson to the ground no more then 5 seconds into the fight. He then went on to control Stevenson on the ground for the entire first round. Stevenson attempted to do some damage from the bottom but did not phase Penn once. Towards the end of the first round Penn split Stevensons forehead wide open with a big elbow. It was one of the fastest bleeding, squirting cuts I have ever seen. Joe came out in the second round and showed heart trying to keep the fight standing and traded blows with Penn. You could tell he was trying to land that one big punch that would change the fight. However, BJ dominated the stand up also. He landed more punches that did more damage. The fight eventually went back to the ground where Penn again dominated and finished the fight with a rear naked choke. I guess it is good to give young guys like Stevenson a chance to prove themselves by fighting in a big fight, but I cant help but to feel Stevenson did not deserve to be in the same octagon as Penn. As deep as the 155 division is we could have easily seen Tyson Griffin, Frank Edgar, or Roger Huerta in that fight. I feel they each are more proven then Stevenson and would have put up a better fight. Either way, after the fight it was more then clear Stevenson was out of his league and I doubt he will ever want to step in the ring with Penn again. Next up is Sean Sherk. Sherk is tough and very strong, but Penn has much more skill and should be able to submit him. In BJ Penns words,"Sean Sherk, your dead!"
