well for example if a boxer were to go to ufc no one would be able to stand up with him but, if they were to get put on the ground they wouldnt stand a chance. obviously mma is definetly more popular but, i think mma is more exciting because of the ground and pound submissions and stand up all combined. you never know what to expect in mma.

MMA IS THE SPORT THAT IS STARTING TO TEAR UP THE WORLD OF BOXING. HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN NAME THE CHAMPIONS IN EACH WEIGHT CLASS IN BOXING, THEN ASK THEM THE SAME QUESTION ABOUT MMA AND THE ANSWERS WILL BE HEAVILY FAVORED FOR MMA. THERE PAY PER VIEWS ARE ALREADY RIVALING THOSE OF BOXING, AND THERE IS ONE ALMOST EVERY MONTH, IN BOXING THERE IS ONE EVERY THREE MONTHS, BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE MMA FIGHTERS RIGHT NOW THAN THERE ARE BOXERS. PLUS YOU HAVE THE WEC AND PRIDE FIGHTING TO GO ALONG WITH THE MAIN MMA SHOW CALLED THE UFC. NO ONE TALKS ABOUT BOXING ANYMORE UNLESS YOU LIVE IN ALBUQUERQUE NM THE HOME OF HOLLY HOLMS,SEVEN TIME WOMENS WORLD CHAMPION ALSO THE HOME OF KEITH JARDINE,DIEGO SANCHEZ AND OTHER MMA FIGHTERS ALL COACHED BY GREG JACKSON AND MIKE WINKELJOHN. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE MY SONAND DAUGHTER TRAINED AT THEIR GYM FOR A YEAR. MMA IS THE RULER OVER BOXING.

I for one CAN name all the champions in all the different weightclasses of boxing, I can also name every color marshmellow in a box of "Lucky Charms" but that does'nt make it better than "Cocoa Puffs" now does it? I've also got $100 dollars that your asking males in the under 35 age range, are'nt you. My grandfather can't name one of the MMA elite but he can name every heavyweight champ to hold the belt since 1955. I have a tremendous respect for MMA, having trained in both martial arts and boxing but take away the kicking, grappling, chokes and throws and what are you left with? Two athletes, in top form, standing toe-to-toe, punching eachother in the face to see who'll be the first to quit. Get hit enough and you'll develope a "sweet science" to avoid it.

JSosa, put a boxer and an MMA fighter in the ring under what rules? Boxing has the tradition, but is struggling for superstars to carry the brand. MMA is much more popular, but I think it still needs to grow some more over the next few years in order to be the premiere fighting sport. Nothing against MMA, it just needs time to create those traditions and bring meanings to its championships in order to have, per say, the value that a heavyweight championship belt in boxing has.
