Fresno State shocks the world; Defeats Georgia to win the 2008 College World Series.
Cinderella's shoe fit like a baseball glove tonight in Omaha, Nebraska as Fresno State became the lowest seed in college sports history to win a National championship by defeating University of Georgia, 6-1 to win the College World Series two games to one in the best of 3 series. Fresno State had to win their conference tournamant just to qualify for the CWS and then were ranked #4 in their region, which is equivalent to being between a #13 and #16 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament. Steve Detwiler had a monster game for Fresno, going 4 for 4 with 2 homers and 6 RBI. Pitcher Justin Wilson pitched brilliantly going 8 innings, yielding only 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 9. This marks Fresno State's first national title in any men's sport in the school's history. A truly amazing sports story. Congratulations to the Fresno State Bulldogs, 2008 College World Series Champions. -Tom, Free the Fan (TLock21)
