UConn, Cincinnati face offensive showdowns on the road

The universities of Connecticut and Cincinnati both go on the road to take on perennial national powerhouses in their season openers. UConn travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan to face a rebuilding Wolverine team and their 100,000+ fans. Cincinnati plunges even deeper by going cross country to Fresno, California for an opening day contest against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Both games are expected to turn into high-scoring offensive showdowns.

Pitt rally falls short in OT, 27-24, while Rutgers blanks Norfolk State, 31-0

The Pitt Panthers used a late game rally to force overtime, then made a fatal mistake which allowed the Utah Utes to eke out a 27-24 opening day win. Meanwhile, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights took the cake-walk as promised with an easy shutout win over the Norfolk State Spartans, 31-0.

Quarterback Jim Sorgi, WR Sinorice Moss and 6th round draft pick LB AdrianTracy was all placed on injured reserve. With only inexperienced Rhett Bomar and Dominic Randolph as backups for Eli Manning, the Giants have expressed some interest in disgruntled Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinart. Leinart, who was in line for the starting job after Kurt Warner retired, appears to have fallen behind Derek Anderson for the starting job in Arizona. The Bills, Raiders and Giants all had trade discussions with the Cardinals about Leinart.
