mickey mantle..he is the best.jeter is good but he has always had decent teams around him..i think if you take jeter out of NY and put him in like pittsburgh and he started his career there and was still there, i dont think people would be talking much about him..thats coming from a tru yankee fan..he would be a nobody without being in New York

Reggie Jackson. Playing good in the clutch is the most important quality and this guy was the best ever at it.

Both Roger Maris and Mickey were certainly two of the best but how does DiMaggio get left out of this conversation? His batting average was better then both and had he played as long, he could've had more homers then Mantle... Top 5 All-Time Yanks 1.DiMaggio 2.Gherig 3.Mantle 4.Jackson 5.Maris...

Don Mattingly! I wish...its a shame what happened to his career. There were so many great yankees that you almost need to do this by era...20's-30's - Ruth & Gherig 40's-50's Joe D 50's-60's The Mick 70's Munson & Guidry 80's Donnie Baseball 90's to today Jeter...but if you really have to pick just one I say Ruth because he changed the game of baseball. He hit 714 HR's and batted .350 before steroids and good bats or balls and in huge ballparks. And dont forget he was a great pitcher at one point. Not only was he the best Yankee but he was the best baseball player to ever play the game.
